Introduction

Welcome to this new blog about tourism in Jerez de la Frontera (Spain).

The aim of this blog is offer information, news and curiosities to the people that are interested in Jerez.
As general information:










Jerez de la Frontera is a City that belongs to the Andalusia region (Spain), has 215,000 habitants and it is the fifth largest city of Andalusia.

The wine of Jerez, knows like Sherry, are world famous and the most exported of Spain, the City is the European Wine City 2014 during this year. Also, Jerez is world famous for the flamenco and horses.
Jerez has a big transport network.
  •  Airport with national and international flights (There is a train station that connects the airport with Jerez train station, Seville and Cadiz. Also a coach lines that connects the airport with Jerez and others towns.)
  • Train station. The train network in Jerez was constructed in 1854 and it was the first train line in Andalusia and one of the first of Spain. It built with the target to bring to the Puerto Real port, the bottles of wine with United Kingdom destination.

Jerez has a Mediterranean weather with wet and warm winter (average temperature of 10º) and dry and hot summer (average temperature of 30º). 50 days yearly is raining in Jerez, so, sunny days are the most common in the city.
Regarding to the economy, Jerez always has been a industrial city, which produces wines and other products, also, is dedicated to agriculture and animal husbandry. Currently, due to the world famous wines Jerez-Sherry-Xerez, the historical monuments, the flamenco, the horses, the feasts and other events like Moto GP Grand Prix or cultural events, Jerez is dedicated the tourism.
Also, due to the important transport network and the geographical situation, Jerez is a big logistical center in Andalusia. Moreover, Jerez has University campus, which offers several degrees as Law, Tourism, Marketing, Business…
The historical city center of Jerez is declared Spanish Property of Cultural Interest, which has buildings from Arabian age to current times and shows us the importance that Jerez got during each historical age.
Jerez has an Alcazar (Moorish fortress), a Cathedral, important churches, Palaces, places where people can see the old wall and one door of that and different museums.
Moreover, there are important wineries where people can go to visit them. The most visited is the Gonzalez-Byass wineries (240,000 visitors yearly), where there are some curious things like mice drinking sherry, barrels of wine that have been signed for famous, athletes and politician of all the world and some Kings and Queens of Spain. Also there is Royal Winery of La Concha, built in 1869 and designed by the famous French engineer Gustavo Eiffel.
Also, Jerez has several places where visitants can enjoy of the flamenco, being Jerez one of the cities where this musical style born. The city has the Andalusian Centre of Flamenco founded to safeguard and promote the values and standards of the flamenco. It is devoted to the investigation, recovery, and collection of flamenco-related historical documents, whether they are in audio, visual, or journalistic form. It also has a collection of flamenco artifacts, including musical instruments, costumes, promotional posters and sheet music. Besides, in Jerez is celebrated the Flamenco Festival, considered by some media the best of the world.
One of the emblems of Jerez is the horse. During centuries has been bred an own breed, the Andalusian or cartujano horse. In Jerez there are a lot of facilities where the horses are the protagonists like the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art (150,000 visitors yearly), located in Duque de Abrantes palace.
